Special Guest Speaker Encourages Audience to Commit Life to Christ

Evangelical Pastor Jay Lowder came to Liberty to speak during Convocation Sept. 22 and 24 to expound on the importance of having a relationship with Jesus, rather than simply knowing about Him.
Liberty continues to have a focus on spiritual leaders speaking at Convocation this fall, with many returning guests. For Lowder, however, this was his first time coming to campus. Lowder spoke on the impact of calling the Lord one’s God but not making Him God in one’s heart.
“There’s a lot of people that wear the label that don’t live the life,” Lowder said in Convocation. “People that call Him Lord but have not made Him Lord.”
Lowder shared his personal testimony, including his struggles of being on the brink of suicide, until he was saved and gave his life to Christ.
Following his sermon, Lowder invited anyone who felt called to come to the Lord and accept Christ into their life. He also invited students to make God the center of their life. The response was strong and numerous students raised their hands to not just know God, but to choose to follow Him.
On Friday, Lowder continued his teaching on building a relationship with God. He talked about people who label themselves as Christians but do not let Christ change their hearts.
“Serving,” Lowder said. “It means service literally to the point of exhaustion. For too long we’ve had people who claim to know Christ who have sat in the grand stands cheering on other people. Believing a lie that the enemy has told them that God can never use them, when God has been wanting to take you off the bench and put you in the game.”
Lowder’s full sermons can be viewed on Liberty’s YouTube channel.
