CFAW Returns for Fall

Following a 10-day mitigation period and a steady decline of on-campus COVID-19 cases, Liberty will open its doors once again to future Flames.

College for a Weekend will return to  university grounds on Oct. 28-30, offering visitors a brief taste of college life.

The weekend will be packed with activities for students and families. Renowned Christian rock band Skillet will be performing on Friday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Vines Center. Liberty football will be playing at  home against the University of Massachusetts’ Minutemen, looking to secure the win as heavy favorites on Oct. 30 at 12 p.m.

Like other years, visiting students will be able to sit in on classes, attend Convocation and enjoy a night of worship led by the Liberty Worship Collective.

“[CFAW] helped me establish connections I hold to this day … as well as familiarizing myself with campus and major-specific classes,” current Liberty sophomore Brodi Stransbury said. Stransbury attended CFAW in the fall of 2019 before enrolling.

Many believe CFAW is one of the different “selling points” that Liberty has to offer for prospective students.

“Liberty’s student culture is one of its greatest selling points, and CFAW offers potential students and their parents the unique opportunity to experience it firsthand,” Executive Vice President of Enrollment Management Ron Kennedy said.

Attendees will be able to participate and partake in accommodations enjoyed by Liberty students all year long – like working out at the LaHaye Fitness Center, skiing and snowboarding at the Liberty Mountain Snowflex Centre and kayaking at the Hydaway Outdoor Center.

“Many people say they can feel the Liberty difference as soon as they walk onto campus,” Kennedy said. “This makes it one of our best recruiting opportunities — between 35-40% of those who attend a CFAW event end up attending LU as a student. Most universities don’t offer anything like it.”

Various welcoming events will be held for incoming students and parents. The “Getting to Know Liberty” event will connect families with several offices and departments for support on Thursday, Oct. 28 from 6-8 p.m. in the Vines Center.

A parent breakout session will be held to inform guardians of policies on campus safety, student services and campus housing and dining on Friday, Oct. 29 from 2:30-5 p.m. in Montview. A student panel will be available to have questions answered by current Liberty students on Friday from 3-3:30 in the library.

Added safety measures have been put into place by university officials to ensure the safety of students and visitors. According to Ron Kennedy, the length of CFAW was reduced from four days to three and on-campus housing is no longer offered to CFAW students.

While this will change the experience of students looking to test the waters, the university believes CFAW still effectively introduces Liberty’s culture.

“CFAW is truly a one-of-a-kind immersive college visit that helps potential students and their parents get a feel for all Liberty has to offer academically, socially and spiritually,” Kennedy said.
