Liberty Men’s basketball completes weekend sweep

Since their two losses at Stetson and North Florida two weeks ago, the Liberty Flames men’s basketball team has not given up a lead in 160 minutes of play through their current four-game winning streak.

The latest wins came Thursday and Saturday this week when the Flames traveled to Jacksonville and North Alabama. Led by redshirt senior Caleb Homesley’s season-high 25 points, Liberty topped the Dolphins 71-62.

But Homesley didn’t lose his hot hand after the brief trip from Florida to Alabama. Homesley matched his previous career-high 30 points against the Lions in Liberty’s 74-56 win at UNA, scoring 19 of Liberty’s first 22 points. By halftime, Homesley had scored 25 points, with all other Flames players combining for 19.

The Flames also saw contributions from senior Georgie Pacheco-Ortiz with 18 points and redshirt senior Scottie James with 12.

Defensively, the Flames have continued to dominate opponents. During the winning streak, the Flames have allowed 52.2 points per game, the exact number as their season average. The Flames rank second in the nation in defensive scoring.

The Flames will host the NJIT Highlanders in the Vines Center Saturday, Feb. 15, the first of their last three home games of the regular season.
