Men’s Hockey suffers first losses to Bulldogs

The No. 4 Liberty Flames men’s hockey team suffered its first losses of the season this weekend when they traveled to take on No. 1 Adrian College in a two-game weekend series.

The Bulldogs trampled the Flames 7-3 Friday night in a show of offensive power and defensive strength, holding the Flames to less than four points for the first time this season.

The Flames fought back Saturday night, however, holding the score to a 1-0 loss when they gave up a late goal to the Bulldogs.

The Flames were without captain Devin Pierce for both games and were also forced to play the second game of the weekend without star sophomore Josh Fricks who started a scuffle in Friday’s game. Fricks laid out Adrian’s goalie in aggressive fashion, knocking four of the goalkeeper’s teeth onto the ice. Flames Head Coach Kirk Handy decided to sit Fricks on Saturday night.

The Flames were involved in a bus accident in Ohio while driving home late Saturday. The other driver involved in the accident was taken to the hospital and is recovering. No team members were injured.

The Flames will be at home this weekend when they host Stony Brook Friday, Nov. 1, and Saturday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m.
