Flames Cash Day will be kicking off again March 10 in order to encourage students, faculty and staff to add Flames Cash to their accounts.

There will be a celebration from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. in the Tilley Student Center, and some discounts will be available only on Flames Cash Day.

The discounts include $1 Hot Cocoa at the baseball game’s concessions, 10 percent off at the Freedom Aviation Pilot Store, 10 percent off at Liberty’s Barnes & Noble Bookstore and 20 percent off at the Liberty Mountain Centre Café.

Using Flames Cash while dining on campus any given day gives a student a 10-15-percent discount, depending upon the merchant.

According to Janeil Pyton, customer support manager of ID & Campus Services, Flames Cash Day is intended for commuter students, faculty and staff rather than
residential students.

While residential students are welcome to participate in Flames Cash Day, most residential students have purchased the Freedom Dining Plan that comes with $120 of dining dollars and $80 of Flames Cash, so Flames Cash Day has become geared more toward those who do not already have a university-provided dining plan.

There are three ways to add Flames Cash to a student or faculty member’s account.

It can be added online or at one of the Payment Headquarters in Location (PHIL) Stations, located in the Reber Thomas Dining Hall and the Tilley Student Center.

Flames Cash can also be added at ID & Campus Services in the Montview Student Union.

The purpose of Flames Cash Day, Pyton said, is to educate faculty and staff about the perks of Flames Cash and convenience that comes with using it.

According to Pyton, Flames Cash Day was started in the spring semester of 2014.

“I think what made (the director) decide to do it was to give Flames Cash a platform and to raise awareness and make people aware of all the perks that come with it and how beneficial it can be to the university community,” Pyton said.

Though Flames Cash Day has become a campus-wide tradition hosted by ID & Campus Services, the day has somewhat changed since it was first started.

“We’ve made improvements to the services that we do that day, and we’ve improved the prizes that we offer,” said Pyton.

On Flames Cash Day from 11 a.m. – to 2 p.m., those who add $25 or more of Flames Cash to their accounts will be able to enter to win prizes such as game tickets, T-shirts, Coffeehouse tickets, frisbees and more Flames Cash.

Pyton said she hopes Flames Cash Day will be larger this year than in years past.

She said Campus Services hopes that the promotions the department offers for the day will make it a little bigger and that people will see the benefits of using Flames Cash.

Pyton said they have a survey they send out after Flames Cash Day each year, and they try to use suggestions and answers from that survey to improve the day from year to year.
