Liberty University professor Karen Prior will debut her October 2012 memoir at the campus bookstore Friday, Nov. 30 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The book launch party will feature her newest memoir, “Booked: Literature in the Soul of Me.” According to Prior, the chair of the department of English and modern languages, the event will include free music, refreshments and a special reading by the author herself.

Prior will read from the third chapter of her book, which is entitled “God of the Awkward, Freckled and Strange.” The professor also said that this title refers to herself as well as others.

According to Prior, her book is a “literary and spiritual memoir.”

“It examines my growth, personality — my faith journey — through the books and authors that most influence my life,” she said.

Prior first thought of the idea for her novel in 2005, when she read the book “How Movies Helped Save My Soul” by Gareth Higgins.

“I was in the midst of reading that when I thought, ‘Someone oughta write a book about this with literature,’” Prior said. “About 20 seconds later, I realized that I could do it.”

Prior’s book-signing event will occur on the second floor of the Liberty bookstore near the café, and her book will also be available to purchase at that time.
