There are two main characteristics that are shared amongst Liberty University’s remarkable and unique alumni family, they are: “Champions for Christ,” and proud. Not only is Amy Makeeff all of these things, but her humility is symbolic of what being a follower of Christ truly radiates. Upon being approached about the potentiality of having her Liberty journey, and journey onward recognized, Makeeff noted that the initial inquiry caught her off guard at first. She returned, “I mean, we get into a mode of thinking who wants to know anything about me?’ ‘I just go to work like the next person.’” Makeeff’s reply was followed up by her sense of endearment for Liberty helping guide her through some overarching trials and tribulations in her life, as well as her full-time career. A career that was being balanced alongside the pursuit of her Liberty online master’s degree, from all the way out in Minot, North Dakota!
For Amy, having worked in finance for upwards of twenty years now, Amy exudes a wealth of understanding about financial economics. To which she outspokenly conveyed, has been bolstered up by the educational, and Biblical principles she falls back on from her time with Liberty University. Unashamedly, she exclaims that she still does not have all the answers, but her LU training has instilled in her abilities how to approach people with inventive ideas in ever-changing scenarios. “There will be a time in your business when you really want a loan approved, or a contract to go through, but then it doesn’t.’ ‘Those are the times when you need to trust in the Lord the most,’” Makeeff says. She further emphasizes that people need to understand that the timing of these things, especially money, is on God’s time.
In point, one Bible verse that has deepened the invaluableness of this outlook on life for Amy comes from the scripture: Habakkuk 2:3. Where it says, “For still the vision awaits it’s appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay” (ESV). Recently, in Amy’s work, she has become the beneficiary of the good fruit that awaited her patience towards the fulfillment of God’s vision for her life. As of this year, Amy Makeeff is now working as the Assistant Chief Credit Officer for the First Western Bank & Trust Team! Even still, when Amy’s not working, she always finds a way to cheer on her Liberty Flames as they make massive waves from Lynchburg, Virginia to the 701!
