LU Alumna Honored as the Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year

Alumni Spotlight: Kristin Ramassini ’17

Kristin Ramassini graduated with her associates in interdisciplinary studies through Liberty University Online. She is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in teaching English as a second language. Kristin was recently awarded the Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year as a Coast Guard spouse in the Washington D.C. area. This award recognizes the leadership, community involvement, communication, and story of the recipient. Kristin’s husband has served 26 years with the Coast Guard during which time Kristin has supported him and the various communities they have been a part of.

Kristin has volunteered in the community, served as a pre-school and K-12 substitute teacher, and worked as a cosmetologist. In all things, she values her work of supporting military families in adjusting to and overcoming trials as the most rewarding part of her life in the military community. One such instance of advocacy came through the organization of a neighborhood watch because of reported break-ins in the neighborhood. She took it upon herself to assemble and structure the watch in order to keep the community safe.

Kristin started her degree at Liberty after four previous attempts at residential degree programs at other colleges. She was hesitant to begin as an online student but remembered, “Getting out of our comfort zone is how we grow, and God moved me to pursue my education.” One memory that stands out to her from her time as a Liberty student was through a discussion thread with other students in an Apologetics class. Replying to a question that asked what each student thought about Apologetics, Kristin took the name of the class literally and responded saying she thought the class was on how to apologize. She soon realized the actual purpose of the class found herself growing in fascination with the various belief systems in the world.

Being a mother, military spouse, teacher, student, and advocate, Kristin strives to make the community and people around her as safe and cared for as possible. Her recognition as the Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year showcases her dedication as a military spouse to her country and her community. She is a true Champion For Christ.

What does this recognition mean to you and your cause?

“I am honored and humbled to be named the Coast Guard Base NCR military spouse of the year. My goal has always been to connect military families to the resources they need to reach their fullest potential. Doing so without fanfare and then being recognized by others for simply taking care of people gives me hope that others will take these simple, yet impactful actions to support those who are coming into the service life today.”
