Beyond the enormous landmasses comprising the earth’s seven continents, there lies an enchanting world ready for exploration — under water. Beginning Jan. 13, Liberty University students and the general public can enroll in a two-week course that gives them the initial certification needed to scuba dive in Earth’s most beautiful oceanic caverns.

One Michigan family had to buy a larger dinner table this Thanksgiving, due to the generosity of Liberty University students. The Wolfes (mother Kathy, father Randy, and children Kristin, Brad, and Bonny) travelled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Nov. 8 to complete the adoption of three teenage Ethiopian siblings.

Liberty's 2008 College Fed Challenge team recently competed at the local level in Richmond, Va. The competition is intended to help students become more knowledgeable about the Fed and the decision-making process of the Federal Open Market Committee, the Federal Reserve's monetary policy-setting group.

Popular author and Pastor Gary Chapman spoke at Wednesday’s convocation service. Chapman, best known for his book “The Five Love Languages,” spoke about his most recently published book, “Love as a Way of Life,” which he began writing after an experience on an airplane left him wondering why some individuals are “lovers” and others are not.

The Studio Creative Community, an LU art club, hosted a "Style Your Sole" event Monday at the DeMoss courtyard. Student artists were on hand to help decorate shoes that were pre-ordered by students. There was also live music, food and coffee donated by local businesses.

Virginia Supreme Court Chief Justice Leroy Hassell, Sr., gave a presentation at Liberty University School of Law on Thursday. In February 2002, Hassell was appointed as the first African-American Chief Justice of the Virginia Supreme Court and the first to be chosen by the other members of the court.

Liberty University welcomed more than 1,600 high school students to College For A Weekend (CFAW) at Friday convocation in the Vines Center. Vice Chancellor Dr. Ron Godwin said the students exploring LU this weekend are the largest CFAW crowd yet.

The Liberty community participated in the nationwide Cans Across America effort Wednesday, collecting more than 6,207 pounds of canned food. The food is being delivered on Friday to the Lynchburg Daily Bread, which serves Lynchburg area families in need.
