Do you want to use your management and planning skills to help make dream events come true? Imagine helping brides plan for their perfect day or helping business community events drive industries forward. Liberty’s B.S. in Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) – Event Planning can give you the skills you need to help these events succeed.

In the event planning program, you will learn how to design, plan, and carry out diverse events from corporate meetings and conferences to social functions like weddings and community fundraisers. This program will immerse you in all aspects of the event industry, including marketing, technology, and entrepreneurship.

  • The required internship in this program provides hands-on experience and potential job offers.
  • Our on-campus clubs allow you to connect with other students and professionals in the field.
  • We have many FACS clubs, including the Family and Child Development Association, Interior Design Association, Fashion Design and Merchandising Association, Event Planning Society, and FACS Honor Society.

What Will You Learn?

  • Negotiating contracts, planning multi-media components, and coordinating and staffing events such as conferences and weddings
  • How to balance the multiple roles and responsibilities of family members, including the application of critical thinking to resolve issues, prioritize needs, and set goals
  • The financial management principles for families throughout the life cycle, with a focus on an analysis of the relationship between family values and use of resources

Internships and Resources Available to Family and Consumer Sciences Students

  • Participate in the annual student-designer fashion show to showcase your design with Liberty’s best based on a student-chosen and organized design theme.
  • Build networking opportunities in event planning by joining the Event Planning Society.
  • Get hands-on experience in your field while making important professional connections in an internship.
  • Join over 200 members in the Interior Design Association to gain access to resources, programs, and services to build toward your future career in interior design.
  • Cultivate new skills and grow your professional network in the Family and Child Development Association.
  • Develop your professional skills in the fashion design industry by joining fellow students in the Fashion Design and Merchandising Association.

Admission Requirements for Our Undergraduate Degree Programs

Every application is reviewed by the admission committee on a case-by-case basis, meaning there are no set minimums for acceptance. However, all applicants must submit the following documents* for admission:

  • Admission application
  • Official high school transcripts
  • Official college transcripts (if applicable)
  • Results from the CLT, SAT, or ACT are not required for admission, but may be used in consideration for merit-based aid.
  • Admission essay

*Note that additional documentation may be requested by the admission committee after your application has been received.
