Content creator and entrepreneur Ruslan KD shared an encouraging message on godly ambition during Convocation, Oct. 28 in the Vines Center.
Ruslan began by describing the difference between selfish ambition and godly ambition, noting that selfish ambition seeks personal glory and leads to broken relationships, whereas godly ambition seeks to honor God and bless others.
Ruslan referenced 1 Thessalonians 4:9-10 and provided practical ways for students to respond to godly ambition.
“Make sure that your identity is anchored in receiving God’s love,” Ruslan said.
Ruslan encouraged students to take care of what God has given them. He reminded students that their lives are given to them by God and should be managed wisely. He also urged the audience to be faithful to what is in front of them right now and not to look ahead.
“Christian effort begins with grace,” Ruslan said. “Grace gives us the security to grow.”
Ruslan’s last piece of advice was to work to become more like Christ. He prompted students to grow in resilience in their faith, saying technology can often draw people away from God.
“Incremental investments lead to monumental advancements,” Ruslan said.

Ruslan ended Convocation by motivating students to invest in their spiritual formation.
Freshman Emily Andrews appreciated Ruslan’s backstory and how he incorporated it into his message.
“I really enjoyed that he brought in his backstory and his life story to show that even when we were young and we go astray from what God’s will is for us, that he can still bring us back into doing what he wants our lives to be and for everything that we are called to do,” Andrews said.
Junior Kaili Mahiai said she enjoyed Ruslan’s explanation of how weeds grow quickly, but blessings take time.
“I liked how he discussed how the best things take time, saying how the only things that grow overnight are weeds,” Mahiai said. “We’re so quick to want things to happen immediately, while every time we’re being impatient, it is actually worth the wait.”
