Chairwoman and CEO for Turning Point USA (TPUSA), founder of BIBLEin365 and Liberty University alumna Erika Kirk spoke at Convocation Oct. 23 in the Vines Center.
TPUSA was founded in 2012 by her late husband, Charlie Kirk.
Kirk talked about living faith well. She also emphasized the importance of bearing Christ’s name and that all Christians should live in accordance to what Jesus taught.
“Saying you’re a Christian and living your life in obedience to Christ is not necessarily the same thing,” Kirk said.
Junior Dominic Morisi said the message should inspire students to examine themselves and their heart posture.
“Erika Kirk’s Convocation brought a word that ought to establish conviction in the heart of every Christian,” Morisi said. “Wearing the costume of holy is not the same as living holy.”
Kirk referenced Exodus 20:7 and reminded students of whose name they bear.
“Charlie knew the root word of ‘take’ in this verse was ‘to carry,’” Kirk said. “As in do not carry the name of the Lord in vain.”
Kirk warned students of counterfeit Christianity and explained how crucial it is for students to strive after God’s truth rather than culture.
Kirk ended Convocation by reciting a prayer.
“Less of me, more of you,” Kirk said. “Here I am, Lord. Send me.”
Junior Carly Van Schaik said Kirk’s words were impactful.
“Having Erika speak to us not only as the woman she is today but as someone who was once in our shoes was so powerful,” Van Schaik said.
