Liberty University celebrated the grand opening of The Champion Center Oct. 20, 2026.
The event featured speakers such as President Dondi Costin, Chancellor Jonathan Falwell, President Emeritus Jerry Prevo, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Liberty University Tim Lee, and President and CEO of Samaritan’s Purse Franklin Graham.
The event began with prayers and opening remarks from Falwell. Then Costin shared his appreciation and the need for The Champion Center.
“We need a stone of remembrance. We need a monument. We need a platform where people can see that forever, until the Lord returns, that this facility will protect and preserve the mission of Liberty University,” Costin said.
The Champion Center features a 24/7 Global Prayer Room, a ballroom that can hold 2,000 people, a high-tech theater and a rooftop plaza.
Prevo explained that the center showcases several exhibits, including “Path of Champions.” The display features the stories of students and alumni. It shows how Liberty has trained them to live out the gospel in the workplace.
“We’re not only just saying we’re Training Champions for Christ — we’re doing it,” Prevo said. “The product is out there, all across this country and around the world.”
After the ceremony, guests were invited into the theater to view a 15-minute film that was produced by Liberty staff.
A reception was held in honor of the ribbon cutting. Attendees reflected on the past and future of Liberty University.
Senior Naomi Knakal said The Champion Center will showcase how students are carrying on Liberty’s mission of Training Champions for Christ.
“As a senior, I think it warmed my heart even more, just knowing that this vision will continue on through the legacy of the students after they graduate,” Knakal said.
