Actress and activist Leigh-Allyn Baker shared her story and perspective on living out her dream for the Lord with students and College for a Weekend (CFAW) visitors at Convocation Sept. 18 in the Vines Center.
Baker reflected on her time as a Disney Channel actress for the show “Good Luck Charlie.” She encouraged students to use their passions to glorify God’s kingdom.
Baker said the generation today does not need to be popular, talented or known to be loved by Jesus.
“Let me ask you something bold right out of the gate,” Baker said. “If God called you to a life and no one applauded, would you still follow him?”
Baker said she dreamed of becoming a well-known actor but ultimately found that dream lacking.
“Arrival doesn’t silence insecurity, fame does not fulfill purpose and applause does not anchor your soul,” Baker said.
She said it is important to pursue humility and stand firm in the faith.
“Will I be faithful or will I be famous? Will I keep my convictions or will I keep my opportunities? Will I speak the truth or will I keep quiet?” Baker asked.
Baker said God must be kept at the center. She encouraged the audience to not let the world overshadow the truth of the Bible.
“If your dream requires you to compromise truth, redefine sin, silence conviction, put your faith on mute or mock what God calls holy, it is not a dream from God,” Baker said.
Baker closed by praying over the students and reminding them of their identity in Christ.
