Student Activities Hosts Bingo Was His Name-O

The LaHaye Event Space was filled with excitement for Student Activities’ farm-inspired bingo night, “Bingo Was His Name-O,” Saturday, Jan. 18.

Participants arrived at 9 p.m. in cowboy hats and farmer’s attire to test their luck in multiple, intense rounds of bingo. Students sang along to country music and laughed over the creative round titles.

Gabriella Trotte, an event supervisor for Student Activities, explained the theme creation process.

At the beginning of this past semester, we had our event staff and marketing staff come up with new relevant bingo themes and present them to our full-time staff,” Trotte said. “Our student workers presented this theme and name, and my co-supervisors, the full-time staff and myself all loved it.”

The room filled with 175 attendees who carefully analyzed their bingo patterns to try and score a win. Samantha Geniti, the emcee for the event, called out numbers with the help of Kaitlin Thornsbury.

The night featured two games, each with six rounds dedicated to life on the farm. Bingo patterns ranging from “Hay” to “Little Pig” kept participants on their toes as they wondered what would come next.

Among the winners included senior Maddie Uhrich, junior Josiah Molina, sophomore Sami Arrkil and sophomore Riley Haverly. The rounds lasted anywhere from four to 10 minutes, depending on the number of spaces needing to be filled.

Two of the rounds had multiple winners; one resulted in a four-way tie, while another faced a five-way tie. To determine a winner, the hosts created entertaining, competitive games to break the ties.

Sophomore Ethan Tolar enjoyed time away from his studies and had fun with his friends.

“I love the bingo nights,” Tolar said. “They are a great way to spend quality time with my friends and it’s a great way to meet new people.”

To make the experience more authentic, Geniti instructed participants to moo like a cow whenever the combination B4 was called. Additionally, during intermission, six enthusiastic students were tasked with performing their best pig impression. The audience selected the winner of this game by cheering (or mooing) as loud as possible.

Student Activities’ will host the next bingo night, “Barbie Bingo,” Feb. 14. For a full list of upcoming Student Activities events, visit www.liberty.edu/sa.
