The Liberty Flames Men’s Soccer team earned a 2-1 victory at Osborne Stadium against Oral Roberts Oct. 27.
The Flames gained control of the ball early as junior midfielder Kyohei Eguchi assisted sophomore midfielder Javan Ochieng, who scored his first goal of the season. The Golden Eagles responded with a goal from junior forward Roman Hemphill, ending the half tied 1-1.
Both teams held each other scoreless for the majority of the second half. When the game reached the final 10 minutes of regulation, sophomore forward Samson Kpardeh made his return, entering the game for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury earlier in the season.
With only five minutes left in the match, Kpardeh delivered the game-winning goal, giving Liberty a 2-1 victory.
First-year Head Coach Scott Wells discussed Kpardeh’s return to the game.
“We asked if he could be cleared to play 10 minutes today to get his confidence back for Friday, but I knew if we put him out on the field, he was going to do something special,” Wells said.
The Flames now gear up for the Southern Conference Men’s Championship Nov. 3
