The Liberty University Men’s Disc Golf team is continuing to build on its momentum.

Now that tryouts have been completed, the early stages of the season are an opportunity for Head Coach Steve Bowman to see what his team can bring to the table.

The program has achieved many accolades over the past few years. The team won first place at the Disc Golf Collegiate National Championship during the 2021-22 season. In 2025, the team placed first in the Blue Grass Regional Championship in Lexington, Kentucky.

“They’re at that echelon of being really good at this sport … so they’re going to get better through the sport, through coaching and all the dynamics of what we have and what we’re going to influence them to and put them in a lot of big tournament scenarios,” Bowman said.

A new roster brings the chance to have players with different skill levels. While it is still early in the season, Bowman has already seen some high-quality players.

“I think the recruiting process is becoming a bigger thing in college disc golf — that’s really the avenue where you get excited about a kid coming in, or a student-athlete that just has been talking to you for a year, or two years,” Bowman said.

The team’s main goal is preparing for the Disc Golf Collegiate National Championship in Rock Hill, South Carolina in April.

During the buildup to the event, the team will travel to Pennsylvania in October for the 2026 Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Championship presented by MVP Disc Sports Oct. 10-11. Later they will compete in the 2026 Powerball Cup for the Disc Golf Pro Tour Championship in Forest, Virginia Oct. 15-18.

While championships and individual performances can be measured, the program looks beyond results. When the season eventually comes to an end, Bowman hopes the players leave with something more than the skills to play disc golf.

“When they leave, there’s two things that I really hope that they got out of what they do here at Liberty for disc golf … that their faith has grown deeper through all of their education … but also just kind of saying ‘Hey, I love being here, I don’t want (it) to end, I want this to continue on,” Bowman said.

The team is shifting its attention to competitions, which will potentially allow it to add another successful chapter to program history.
