Christian evangelist, influencer and Liberty University alumnus Bryce Crawford spoke at Convocation in the Vines Center Sept. 25. Crawford read from Genesis 25, highlighting the story of Esau, who traded his inheritance away for a bowl of soup. He said that Christians commonly focus on short-term situations rather than long-lasting gain.

“Every time we sin, we block out what God has for us, and we just focus on what is right in front of us,” Crawford said. “We can’t take the bait.”

Crawford referenced 1 Peter 1:23 in explaining that the gift of eternity lasts forever.

“The inheritance that comes with God is imperishable,” Crawford said. “The greatest part of the inheritance is that we get God himself — he is the prize.”

Crawford reminded students that being passive in the Christian walk is like choosing to opt out of the plan of God.

“If you are not loving the people around you with the gifts God has given you, you are copping out,” Crawford said.

Sophomore Taylor Woodcox commented on how Crawford urged students to step out in faith and approach others with the love of God.

“He did a great job exhorting us to not trade Jesus’ commission to believers with comfortability or other fleshly desires,” Woodcox said. “Instead, pursue people with the love of God by sharing the good news of Jesus.”

Crawford concluded by encouraging students to avoid passivity and to actively live out their faith.

“I’m stopping sitting on the sidelines, because we’re on the winning team,” Crawford said.
