Student Activities Hosts Barbie-Themed Bingo Night

Student Activities held a Barbie-themed bingo night in the LaHaye Event Space Feb. 14. The night featured music, prizes and a seasonally appropriate amount of pink decor.
The first game started at 9 p.m. when the Student Activities team members provided each player with two Bingo cards and a colored paint dauber to fill in the sheets. The sheets were arranged in three rows and two columns, equaling six total bingo boards per sheet.
Freshman Kylie Hill said she was excited at the prospect of achieving bingo at the event.
“We wanted to enjoy some fun galentines together … We’ve never won at bingo, but (we have) high hopes for tonight,” Hill said.
Student Activities’ student workers, Sophia White and Nathan Pfohl, commandeered the bingo cage and called out the numbers during the event.
During each round, players tried to recreate different Barbie Bingos — such as a “Purse,” “High Heel” or a “Mojo Dojo Casa House,” which were each modeled on the screen as dots on a bingo board grid.
The event included two games with six rounds each, separated by a brief intermission in which a “best dressed” contest was hosted.
In rounds one through 11, students competed for a $20 gift card. The last round of the night included fierce competition for a grand prize: a box full of Barbie-themed bags, cups and slippers.
The first round of the night had players looking to make a roller blade on their sheets. The winner, Gabrielle Borst, claimed her prize in under 10 minutes.
The casual nature and quick pacing of the night allowed players to come and go as needed. Some players would play a few rounds, sit out a round to grab food at the Tilley Student Center, and return to join the next one.
“We took pre-workout and came here … I think I got the lucky card, so this is about to be awesome,” said sophomore James Silva, who is in the nursing program.
Round three saw the first tie of the night. The players who achieved bingo simultaneously went to the stage for a face-off, each selecting a number between one and 75. Pfohl then rolled a number, and whoever’s guess was closest would win.
In the case of round three, that lucky player was Adam Russell, becoming the first Ken to win that evening.
At the conclusion of round six, the best dressed competition was won by a man who attended the event as Beach Ken. Dressed in a bandana headwrap and a large fur coat, this Beach Ken closely resembled one of Ryan Gosling’s costumes from 2023’s “Barbie” film.
The final round, titled “Kenergy,” saw players racing to achieve a “blackout,” meaning every spot on their board needed to be filled in order to win.
Sydney King, from the same team as Hill, was declared the victor and generously shared the grand prize with her fellow teammates.
