Student Activities Hosts Brainrot Culture Themed Trivia Night Jan. 23

Student Activities hosted a Brainrot Culture themed trivia night in the LaHaye Event Space Jan. 23.

More than 300 students attended the event; the line stretching beyond the gym by the time the room hit capacity, sending some eager internet experts home without the chance to test their knowledge.

Junior Jaice Thurber saw the event as an opportunity to make up for all the time she’s spent scrolling on the internet.

“I do a lot of scrolling, more than I should, and I think that (winning) would just be a way for it to kind of pay off,” Thurber said.

Those who showed up early enough to get in, like Thurber, competed in teams of three to six people. Each student was assigned a table and given five papers on which to submit their answers to the five respective categories of trivia. The categories for this event were Brain Rot Terms, Icons, Audio, Rotten Brain Rot and Brain Rot Quotes.

Freshman Ezra Hulst was on the self-named team, Sam’s Club Guys.

“I got a good team with me. We’re looking to take a dub tonight,” Hulst said.

Hulst and the other members of Sam’s Club Guys faced stiff competition. During the first round, 20 teams tied for first place, each scoring 100%.

The tied teams each sent a single representative who competed for a single question. The emcees read the question, then counted down from three. The winning player needed to be the first to shout “boom!”

In between rounds, the emcees hosted several side events while the results from previous rounds were graded. No prizes were attached to these events other than an unadulterated love of the game.

These side events included players attempting to vocally recreate famous audios, such as the classic Bruh.mp3, performing dance trends such as the Griddy, and having the crowd decide if TikTok is better than Instagram Reels through a series of shouted “booms.”

Circling back to the main trivia competition, the team at table 44 locked in, winning the first and second rounds with complete accuracy on the standard trivia and the fastest response in each of their tiebreakers.

Table 32 clapped back, winning round three in the third straight tiebreaker.

Table 33 defeated the competition as well, winning round four, and also brought home round five in another final tiebreaker.

As trivia came to its end, tables two and four had tied for the highest total correct answers and faced off in a special, final tiebreaker. The teams each sent one representative on stage, but this time, the representatives had to give their best Brain Rot pick-up line, and the crowd chose their favorite by cheering. The player whose line impressed the most crowd members won.

Table two, Six Big Moves, brought home the number one victory royale and went home with a bundle of brainrot themed items.
