Student Activities hosts Line Dancing outside medical building

Grapevine. Shuffle step. Stomp. Hitch kick.
Instructors used these terms and others to introduce students to line dancing Saturday evening at the Student Activities event.
Students dressed in flannels, blue jeans, cowboy hats and boots to come together to learn how to line dance with professional instructors.
Instructors Emma Gutierrez and Joey Ramirez went step-by-step, showing students how to do the dance so they could join in whether they were a beginner or an expert line dancer.
“Student Activities has a mission to serve and entertain students with a variety of relevant events to develop community and create and foster culture,” Walker Sandler, the event supervisor for Student Activities, said. “Line Dancing Night provides students with a taste of Southern hospitality while being an event everyone can interact with. Ultimately, we love to serve our students with something relevant to them, and line dancing is very popular with students.”
While some dances required a partner, some moments allowed students to dance solo or in a line with others. Student Activities also offered refreshments.
After the line dance instructors left the stage, a band played country music. While some students crowded the stage to listen to the music, others continued to start their own line dance section, which grew throughout the night.
“It was really fun … line dancing, and I liked that they were able to teach us the dances,” student Micki Volpi said. “I think more kids should go to it because it is free, and it is a fun Saturday night that you are staying out of trouble.”
This is one of many events that Student Activities is hosting this year.
“We have a whole host of events coming up this semester,” Sandler said. “We’ll have more Open Mics, Movie Nights and Bingo Nights, but we also have more one-off events that are sure to be fun. Fall Fest, Christmas In Lights and Coffeehouse will all make their return. We are also having Monster Mash, Dustin Nickerson and Colony House later this fall. You can find out all the dates of our events on the Liberty Student Activities website.”
