Students go global

Liberty University’s Center for Global Engagement (CGE) hosted its annual informational meeting Monday night, Aug. 25 at Thomas Road Baptist Church.

The event, popularly referred to as the global expo, served as a platform to inform students on how to expand their studies to better fit a global perspective. The theme of this year’s global expo was entitled “What’s Your Global” and staff presentations were given on stage to encourage student involvement within one of the various departments of CGE.

The stage, set up with six doors, represented the six different ways students could join with CGE. The most anticipated event of the night was, according to CGE, the unveiling of this year’s global teams. According to CGE, global teams will travel to 23 different international destinations over Christmas, spring break and summer.

Staff member Lyndsay Keith expressed how this year’s expo gave students a more hands-on approach.

“This is definitely different from last year’s Global Engagement Expo,” Keith said. “It is a lot more interactive and we are really trying to get students to consider all the opportunities. We want to give the students a better idea of the … possibilities out there. We would hate for them to limit themselves.”

According to CGE, the staff is passionate about reaching out to students in order to ensure that they are knowledgeable of the opportunities around them. During the expo, students learned about the different ways that they can get involved globally, including opportunities such as the global studies major and minor, global internships and global retreats.

Students at the expo were also reminded that the semiannual Global Focus Week (GFW) will be held Sept. 15-17. The conference will offer students the chance to hear from guest speakers in Convocation, explore booths from different international organizations and participate in breakout sessions to gain more information about various cultures and international service opportunities.
