At Liberty, I learned so much about worship and how to live an authentic life for Christ — both within my circle of influence and within the community. Liberty taught me how to be a Champion for Christ in all that I do, and to carry that into my job opportunities.

Since attending Liberty University, my relationship with Christ has not transformed but solidified. The race we run is a marathon, not a sprint. There are valleys and mountaintops throughout our relationship with Christ. Liberty has taught me that God is present in the valley, the same way He is present in the mountaintops. Our relationship with Him should be as consistent as possible no matter what the circumstances will be.

My favorite Liberty memories consist of being a pioneer student. . . help[ing to] form a school that has become a university today and going up to Candler's Mountain to pray over the land for a future campus.

I knew that my life calling was to prepare the next generation of leaders, and I knew that Christian higher education was a huge part of making an impact. I specifically chose Liberty's Ed.D. program because of the integration of faith and learning in the curriculum.

Studying and preparing for my future at Liberty University reminded me not where I come from, but who I represent in my profession. Jesus is the One I seek to give glory and fame to in my career field. Each course was taught by a professional, and this example modeled me to be excellent. Experiential learning made this a critical component for me to put what I learn in the field.

One of my favorite memories of Liberty University was the compassion shone to me during a trying time in my life. I was well into my second semester at Liberty working on a master's degree when I was diagnosed with an eye disease that made me unable to continue my studies. I contacted the university and explained my situation. Liberty worked with my doctor and allowed me to withdraw from classes through a medical withdrawal. They kept in touch and abreast of my medical condition. This medical condition still exists today; however, my sight returned after about a year of treatment, and Liberty allowed me to resume school without having to pay for the year I missed. In May 2017, I graduated with a Master of Science in Criminal Justice: Public Administration. If Liberty had not been compassionate enough to allow for this medical condition to be treated as they did, I would not have been able to complete my studies there. After graduation, I was able to serve as a federal police officer with the Navy and on July 13, 2020, I was finally able to retire from the United States Secret Service, though on a disability, due to this disease finally taking my sight in my left eye and my need for a prosthetic right eye. My education from Liberty University taught me to research using the most important information and statistics, which has made me a lifetime researcher of truth. Today, my research has shown me things I once believed to be true are not always accurate. Unfortunately, not all Americans research truth, and our society is paying dearly for that.

One of my favorite memories was taking Dr. Black's weeklong education intensive during the summer of 2018. The class was quite grueling with a large group presentation at the end. We spent all day in class and until midnight every night studying. We were so tired but it was so much fun. I met people from literally all over the world. It brought back memories of my undergrad studies in San Diego. We laughed, studied, drank Starbucks like it was water, and wrote all over the walls in the library study rooms. In the end, we received full credit for our presentation and I received an A in the class. It was a summer I will never forget.

I lost my mom, wife, and father-in-law in 2012 and 2013. The losses were difficult to deal with, having come so close together. In response to the suffering, the Lord called me to learn more about Him so I could work through the suffering and, though I did not know it at the time, to equip me to perform His work. I entered Liberty University not knowing what I was being called for, but had decided I would follow the call. My trip to Turkey through LU Send led me to understand that whatever we build in this world is meaningless when compared to His glory. I saw the suffering in a new light. The suffering became a blessing and I viewed it as a grace from God to grow me (1 Pet 4:19).

I grew in my boldness in my faith while at Liberty. I learned how to apply my faith to everyday issues in a practical way. Each class taught me something I could use, but the professors and coaches I had added a practical twist to every single course I took or athletic event I attended. They taught me to apply my faith to everything from political issues, economics, literature, geological phenomena, and international relations, to athletics and my future career aspirations. At every turn, they helped answer the question “what does walking as a Christian practically look like in this instance? How are you different than the world in this situation?” Being in that mindset about all aspects of life increased my boldness. Understanding how my faith could be directly applied to things like political views or economic issues lead to boldness in my ability to share my beliefs with others in any medium. God used Liberty to teach me how to apply my faith practically to everyday issues in life.

During my time at Liberty, my faith became my own and I learned how to pursue Christ in all that I do, focused on an audience of one. I feel that I used to work relying on my own accomplishments and capability but have since achieved things greater than I ever would have thought by continuing to rely on Christ and listen to His direction in all things. The relationships I have developed with my professors here have directly influenced the direction of the rest of my life, and how I plan to use my degree and skills to not only be excellent in what I do but to impact others positively for the Kingdom wherever I go.

Between my family and my experiences with church early in my childhood, I thought most Christians were selfish hypocrites. At Liberty, I got to learn from professors who truly embodied the gospel and showed real, authentic love and compassion toward each of their students. My community group freshman year was my first experience opening up and being held accountable by others, and it was instrumental in my developing faith in Christ. During my time at Liberty, I have gone through some of the hardest trials of my life, but the friendships I made, the encouragement I received, and the truth I had internalized meant that instead of being crushed by the weight of the world, I was able to lean on Jesus and He guided me through.

I absolutely loved attending Liberty University. I was able to earn two master's degrees and one master's certificate. The faculty were always professional, thoughtful, and spiritual. I always felt God's presence while taking classes. Also, my classmates were amazing. Even though most of my programs were online, I always felt like we were interacting in a close-knitted manner. I've had a tremendous time when I visited the campus for Intensive classes. Liberty University will always have a special place in my heart. God bless you all!

I fondly look back on my three years at Liberty University, particularly because of how my personal faith and evangelistic lifestyle were dynamically transformed. My theology, evangelism, and philosophy classes provided me with the critical foundation necessary to defend and promote the gospel message. I appreciated how my music and communication professors enlightened me to the many ways my potential careers can give glory to God. My connections with my residential community groups, leadership teams, and colleagues collectively made Liberty University feel like my second home. Their genuine encouragement, guidance, and accountability enabled me to more boldly pursue Christ and take on courage, rather than give into a spirit of fear and hopelessness, which I’m eternally grateful for.

I began my journey with Liberty University Online in 2016. Three months after starting, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was devastated and was pretty sure I would have to give up my dream of becoming a teacher. I started chemotherapy and had surgery in my third month of schooling. I became very ill and was down for several weeks from the surgery. I emailed my professors to let them know I might be late with my assignments and that I would appreciate their support and understanding. My professors were amazing! They extended my time and were very thoughtful and helpful during that time. I was determined to not have special treatment or be late with my assignments, but I wanted that cushion just in case. I was able to turn in all of my assignments on time except one. I was very proud of that accomplishment. Liberty University has been a Godsend for me. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Education and now am in my master's program for Special Education. All of the prayers and support from my peers and professors helped get me through a time when I thought all hope was lost. Through Liberty University, I found strength to push through the hard times and follow the dreams that God has put on my heart to help children.

If you're a student looking at colleges, you should definitely go to Liberty University! In today's world, it is so hard to find a good education that has a strong Christian foundation, but Liberty is definitely a college that includes both of these elements. Liberty will provide you with a great education, but they will also ensure that you learn more about the Bible and what it has to say about life and how to live and thrive in it. It will be difficult along the journey to your degree, but if God has called you to do this, then He will see you through. I know that I only made it through because of His awesome strength and help. There will be days when you feel like giving up, but just keep at it — God will see you through. Liberty is definitely worth the investment, even when schoolwork gets hard or stressful. If God is calling you here, then it is definitely the right place for you!
