For Liberty University students who are looking for ways to get in shape, Campus Recreation offers a unique solution through weekly group exercise classes.

According to Campus Recreation, the department offers more than 35 standard group classes each week. These classes are made up of three separate categories: cardio, mind and body, and strength.

Campus Recreation provides a selection of unique classes such as Cardio Dance, Pilates, Hybrid Conditioning and other options.

Students can choose various workouts across the different classes based on what they are interested in and what aligns with their fitness goals. Some classes focus on cardio and movement, while others focus on flexibility and strength.

Power Pilates is a class that combines different movements to create a more challenging workout. Students are able to build strength, as well as improve balance and flexibility.

Olivia Stevens, one of the group exercise instructors, started teaching at Liberty University in August 2025.

She focuses on working the entire body during her Power Pilates classes.

“It’s definitely a strength-based type of workout … lots of reps, lower weight … definitely more of a cardio-type class, but basically it’s just a lot of your small muscle groups being worked,” Stevens said.

Classes are designed to teach students who have different fitness abilities. Stevens said she provides modifications throughout her classes so everyone can participate, no matter where they are physically.

“I give lots of options, so if it’s something that maybe not everybody would be able to do their first time, I give lots of options for them to be able to do a different variation of the movement,” Stevens said.

Other classes, such as Sunrise Cycle and Sunrise Pilates Fusion, start at 6:30 a.m. and give students a great way to begin the day. Cardio Dance also provides a way for students to work out, as well as enjoy music while they move.

“I really like to have them feel encouraged when they leave and just be excited to move and to do life with the Lord and to be encouraged and empowered physically and spiritually and mentally,” Stevens said.

Campus Recreation instructors focus on making the classes safe, effective and enjoyable. The program offers several class formats to meet the needs and interests of students with different fitness levels.

For those new to group exercise, the variety of classes offers a chance to try various workouts and find one they enjoy.

Group exercise also gives students the opportunity to stay in shape alongside their peers. Instead of working out alone, they can participate in an instructor-led class.

All standard group exercise classes are free for students with a valid Flames Pass. This gives them access to a variety of fitness opportunities without paying an additional fee for each class. Students may also purchase a Group Ex Plus Membership for access to all 57 classes.

With more than 35 classes offered each week, students can find options throughout the day that fit their schedules. From early morning classes to later workouts, Campus Recreation offers different ways for busy students to make exercise part of their college routine.
