It’s curfew on a Sunday night. You’ve been hanging out with your friends, and now it’s time to go to bed, but you suddenly realize you have an 8:15 class tomorrow. Despite the dread you may feel, there are ways to survive these early morning classes.
First, getting a good night’s rest is crucial when gearing up for your first class. According to Cornell Health, college students need seven to nine hours of sleep each night. To make sure you are getting the sleep you need, set an alarm on your phone to remind you when you need to get ready for bed.
Building a morning routine is the next step toward a successful trip to an 8:15 class. Quiet activities, such as reading a book, making a cup of coffee or spending time in the Bible will allow your body time to adjust and wake up.
Of course, a good morning routine starts with proper planning. Choices you make the night before can help mitigate potential stress and chaos in the morning. Preparing an outfit or organizing school supplies will minimize extra duties when you wake up.
Once you are ready to leave, take time to talk to the Lord. The Bible reminds us in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 to “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
No matter the circumstance, establishing time to be with the Lord can help brighten your mood before you enter the classroom.
1 John 5:14-15 reminds us that God hears our prayers, and when we talk to him, we remind ourselves that he is God, and we are not. A few minutes of honest prayer can prepare your heart to receive what God has in store for you that day.
Early morning classes can be hard to get through, but if you prepare yourself well, then you will have a better chance of getting into your seat on time, ready to learn and start your day.
