Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Post-MSN) – Kansas
Liberty University and the School of Nursing meet all requirements for enrollment of Kansas students in this program. All students are required to have a current, unencumbered Registered Nurse License prior to enrollment.
Kansas State License Requirements:
a. RN License.
i. You must maintain a current, unencumbered RN license for any Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner program.
ii. Kansas is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact Administration, therefore, to participate in practicum in the state of Kansas, the student must hold an active, Kansas or Multi-State RN license.
iii. Any change in licensure status must be reported to the Liberty University School of Nursing Online Student Support Coordinator
b. APRN License Application Requirements
i. Education
1. The Kansas Board of Nursing requires official transcripts from a Masters or higher degree program for the specialty. Transcripts must be submitted to the Board in a sealed envelope, or through email, from the educational program. To request an official transcript, you may reach out to the Registrar’s office.
2. A letter from the Dean of the School of Nursing is also required when applying for APRN licensure in Kansas. To request a letter from the Dean of the School of Nursing, please reach out to LUSON Dean to request a letter verifying completion of the FNP/DNP Program.
ii. Certification:
This program meets requirements for eligibility to sit for national certification examinations.
Change to Licensure Education Requirements for APRNs K.A.R. 60-17-105 was amended on Feb 7, 2025, to include a change to the number or practice hours required for licensure: Any student who has started an advanced practice program before March 1, 2025: the number of practice hours required for licensure is at least 500 practice hours in each clinical track Any student who starts an advanced practice program on March 1, 2025, or after: the number of practice hours required for licensure is at least 750 practice hours in each clinical track As a reminder, the requirement for at least 45 semester credit hours or the academic equivalent in the advanced nursing program has not changed. If you have a degree from a program outside of Kansas, please contact the program and have them send a letter affirming the completed clinical hours.
Kansas students will need to complete 750 clinical hours in this program to be eligible for APRN licensure in Kansas. For more information, please reach out to the Student Support Coordinator at DNP@Liberty.edu.
