Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Post-MSN) – Indiana

Liberty University and the School of Nursing meet all requirements for enrollment of Indiana students in this program. All students are required to have a current, unencumbered Registered Nurse License prior to enrollment.

Indiana State License Requirements:

a. RN License.

i. You must maintain a current, unencumbered RN license for any Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner program.
ii. Indiana is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact Administration, therefore, to participate in practicum in the state of Indiana, the student must hold an active, multi-state RN license.
iii. Any change in licensure status must be reported to the Liberty University School of Nursing  Online Student Support Coordinator.

b. APRN License Application Requirements

i. Education
A. The Indiana Board of Nursing requires official transcripts from a Masters or higher degree program for the specialty, in order to apply for independent prescriptive authority in the state of Indiana. Transcripts must be submitted directly to the Board by the applicant’s nursing program, through either mail or email. To request an official transcript, you may reach out to the Registrar’s office.

B. Applicants must submit proof of having successfully completed a graduate level pharmacology course consisting of at least two (2) semester hours of academic credit from a college or university accredited by the Commission on Recognition of Postsecondary Accreditation:

1. within five (5) years of the date of application; or
2. if the pharmacology course was completed more than five (5) years immediately preceding the date of filing the application, the applicant must submit proof of the following:

Completion of at least thirty (30) actual contact hours of continuing education during the two (2) years immediately preceding the date of the application, including a minimum of at least eight (8) actual contact hours of pharmacology, all of which must be approved by a nationally approved sponsor of continuing education for nurses; If applying for Controlled Substance Registration, at least 2 of the above must be Opioids

ii. Certification:
This program meets requirements for eligibility to sit for national certification examinations.
