Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Post-MSN) – District Of Columbia

Liberty University and the School of Nursing meet all requirements for enrollment of District of Columbia students in this program. However, Liberty University is not approved to offer clinicals in the District of Columbia. Students who are DC residents will need to plan to complete practicum in an approved state. All students are required to have a current, unencumbered Registered Nurse License prior to enrollment.

District of Columbia License Requirements:

a. RN License.

i. You must maintain a current, unencumbered RN license for any Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner program.
ii. District of Columbia is not a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact Administration; therefore, to participate in practicum in an approved state, the student must hold an active, unencumbered RN or multistate license in that state.
iii. Any change in licensure status must be reported to the Liberty University School of Nursing Online Student Support Coordinator.

b. APRN License Application Requirements

i. Education
Applicants must provide documentation of graduation from an accredited graduate level APRN program in the role and population focus congruent with the license. Applicants must request their institution send a copy of the official transcript to the DC BON. To request an official transcript, you may reach out to the Registrar’s office.

ii. Certification:
This program meets requirements for eligibility to sit for national certification examinations.

a. Will LUSON support practicum placement in District of Columbia?

Liberty University School of Nursing students are not approved for practicum in the State of District of Columbia.

i. Students are not permitted to complete practicum in the District of Columbia. Students may complete practicum in an approved state.
ii. Students must hold a license for the approved state in which they plan to complete their clinical experience.
