Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Post-BSN) – Texas
Liberty University and the School of Nursing meet all requirements for enrollment of Texas students in this program. All students are required to have a current, unencumbered Registered Nurse License prior to enrollment.
Texas State License Requirements:
a. RN License.
i. You must maintain a current, unencumbered RN license for any Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner program.
ii. Texas is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact Administration, therefore, to participate in practicum in the state of Texas, the student must hold an active, Texas or Multi-State RN license.
iii. Any change in licensure status must be reported to the Liberty University School of Nursing Online Student Support Coordinator
b. APRN License Application Requirements
i. Education
a. The Texas Board of Nursing requests an official electronic transcript indicating completion of a post-basic advanced educational program of study appropriate for practice in an APRN role and population focus area, recognized by the Board. To request an official transcript, you may reach out to the Registrar’s office.
b. Applicants seeking a Certificate of Fitness to Prescribe must show preparation in specialized practitioner skills at the master’s, post-master’s, doctoral, or post-doctoral level, including, but not limited to, at least three (3) quarter hours of pharmacology instruction or its equivalent. Liberty Meets this requirement.
c. Applicants must be able to show completion of the advanced practice nursing educational program with the last 24 calendar months; Or complete a minimum of 20 contact hours of continuing nursing education in the appropriate advanced role and population focus area within the last 24 calendar months.
ii. Certification:
This program meets requirements for eligibility to sit for national certification examinations.
