Family Nurse Practitioner – West Virginia
Liberty University and the School of Nursing meet all requirements for enrollment of West Virginia students in this program. All students are required to have a current, unencumbered Registered Nurse License prior to enrollment.
West Virginia State License Requirements:
a. RN License.
i. You must maintain a current, unencumbered RN license for any Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner program.
ii. West Virginia is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact Administration, therefore, to participate in practicum in the state of West Virginia, the student must hold an active, West Virginia or Multi-State RN license.
iii. Any change in licensure status must be reported to the Liberty University School of Nursing Online Student Support Coordinator
b. APRN License Application Requirements
i. Education
1. The West Virginia Board of Nursing requires official transcripts from a graduate program for the specialty, accredited by a national accrediting body recognized by the WV BON. Transcripts must be submitted to the Board in a sealed envelope, or through email, from the educational program, and should include evidence of completion of 3 separate graduate courses in advanced physiology and pathophysiology, advanced health assessment, and advanced pharmacology, which includes pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics and pharmacotherapeutics of all broad categories of agents, role and population focus of the education program, and evidence of meeting the standards of nursing education in WV. 2. To apply for prescriptive authority, applicants must show evidence, through the official transcript, of successful completion of an advanced pharmacology graduate level course approved by the board, of not less than 45 pharmacology contact hours. Applicants must also provide documentation of the use of pharmacotherapy in clinical practice in the education program, as well as provide evidence of 15 graduate level pharmacology contact hours in advanced pharmacotherapy completed within 2 years prior to application for prescriptive authority.
ii. Certification:
This program meets requirements for eligibility to sit for national certification examinations.
