Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner – New Mexico
Liberty University and the School of Nursing meet all requirements for enrollment of New Mexico students in this program. All students are required to have a current, unencumbered Registered Nurse License prior to enrollment.
New Mexico State License Requirements:
a. RN License.
i. You must maintain a current, unencumbered RN license for any Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner program.
ii. New Mexico is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact Administration; therefore, to participate in practicum in the state of New Mexico, the student must hold an active, unencumbered New Mexico or Multi-State RN license.
iii. Any change in licensure status must be reported to the Liberty University School of Nursing Online Student Support Coordinator.
b. APRN License Application Requirements
i. Education
1. Applicants must provide documentation of graduation from their APRN educational program. Applicants must request their educational institution send a copy of the official transcript to the NM BON. To request an official transcript, you may reach out to the Registrar’s office.
2. Applicants must also complete the first portion of the “Verification of Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Education Form” and forward the form to their APRN program. The APRN program will then complete the form, then send it to the NM BON of nursing on the applicant’s behalf. For assistance with the “Verification of Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Education Form”, applicants should email the form, with their portion completed, to the Liberty University School of Nursing Online Student Support Coordinator. 3. To obtain prescriptive authority, the applicant must provide a transcript showing a three credit hour course in each of the following: 1) pharmacology, 2) assessment, and 3) pathophysiology, included as part of a graduate level advanced practicum nursing education program.
4a. Applicants seeking prescriptive authority must have Completed a minimum of 400 hour of work experience in which prescribing dangerous drugs has occurred within the two years immediately preceding the date of application; This is verified via the Verification of APRN Education form completed by the APRN program; or:
4b. Successfully complete a prescriptive authority preceptorship consisting of 400 hours of precepted prescribing of dangerous drugs which must be completed within six months, following the steps, below:
i. Submit an Affidavit Requesting Prescriptive Authority
ii. Preceptor must provide to the Board of Nursing, on letterhead, a letter including the name and license number of the prescription preceptor(s)
iii. The Board of Nursing will issue a letter of authorization for the preceptorship.
ii. Certification:
This program meets requirements for eligibility to sit for national certification examinations.
