Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner – Maine

Liberty University and the School of Nursing meet all requirements for enrollment of Maine students in this program. All students are required to have a current, unencumbered Registered Nurse License prior to enrollment.

Maine State License Requirements:

a. RN License.

i. You must maintain a current, unencumbered RN license for any Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner program.
ii. Maine is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact Administration, therefore, to participate in practicum in the state of Maine, the student must hold an active, Maine or Multi-State RN license.
iii. Any change in licensure status must be reported to the Liberty University School of Nursing Online Student Support Coordinator

b. APRN License Application Requirements

i. Education
1. The Maine Board of Nursing requires official transcripts to be submitted to the Board by the educational program. To request an official transcript, you may reach out to the Registrar’s office.
2. If more than 5 years have elapsed since completion of an advanced practice registered nurse program and the applicant does not meet the practice requirement set forth by the applicant’s advanced practice certifying body, the applicant shall complete 500 hours of clinical practice supervised by a physician or nurse practitioner in the same specialty area of practice.
3. To apply for Prescriptive Authority: If the applicant has not prescribed drugs within the past 2 years, the applicant shall provide evidence of satisfactory completion of 15 contact hours of pharmacology within the 2 years prior to applying for approval to practice. If the applicant has not prescribed drugs within the past 5 years, the applicant shall -11- provide evidence of satisfactory completion of 45 contact hours (or 3 credits) of pharmacology within the 2 years prior to applying for approval to practice.

ii. Certification:
This program meets requirements for eligibility to sit for national certification examinations.
