Yes! Each can be enrolled in a different program, and that is not a problem. Just remember that LUOA offers teacher’s assistance and academic advising, while Ember, as a curriculum provider rather than a school, does not offer those services. Keep in mind: If a student is taking a similar course, the content, assignments, tests, and quizzes may differ between LUOA and Ember.

Ember’s K-12 curriculum, like LUOA’s curriculum, is based on Virginia’s Standards of Learning.

Login information will be received once payment and claim account is completed.

There are no physical materials that will be sent. You can find the required materials here and in each course syllabus. If you wish to have physical assignments, you can print them from your browser and enter the grade manually into the grade book. Please keep in mind that not all assignments have a provided answer key.

We do recommend that each student keep a journal to take notes on the material taught to be able to study for quizzes and tests, but that is not something we provide or mail to our students.

The simple answer is no. You know your student better than anyone, and you are free to request the courses you know they need, regardless of the grade.

Ember is a curriculum-only program providing twelve months of access and allowing for flexibility for your student’s learning. With Ember, you can work at your own pace, whenever and however works best for your schedule.

When you access any of our preview courses, you see what a student would see. These previews are a couple of weeks of curriculum content. In most courses, you would have the full 36 weeks of curriculum material.

Course Preview

Each lesson is about 30 minutes for the average student, including homework time. However, this does not include the time every student needs to spend taking notes and then reviewing those notes before taking a quiz or a test. Study is a key component needed to succeed in online learning.

When an educator enters “Student Mode,” it shows the educator what a student would see when taking this course. It does this by creating a test user called “Test Student,” allowing the educator to interact with the course exactly as a student would. However, the “Test Student” is not connected to the actual student(s) enrolled in the course. This is to say that the educator can do anything they like while in Student Mode (submit assignments, mark as done, etc.) without fear of influencing their student(s)’ data in any way. “Reset Student” refreshes the Test Student data to a clean slate as if they had just started using the course. “Reset Student” does not impact real student data in any way.

Marking a lesson as complete can only be done by the student. As the student goes through the lessons they will select the “mark as done” button. The lessons will show up as completed on the modules page.

Essential Skills is a shorter course designed for someone who has already taken the respective course but is still struggling with the subject matter. Essential Skills reiterates content from the respective math course and is an ideal refresher course to better prepare the student to enter the next math in sequence. It can also function as a great summer course to keep the students’ math skills sharp over the summer months.

To log into Ember CLICK HERE. It is not uncommon for the Liberty University branding to show up in the Course Registration Tool or Canvas. Once your Ember courses are activated on your requested start date, the Ember branding will be reflected in your account. 

We suggest that you take some time to review your state’s requirements before embarking on the homeschool journey to make sure that you abide by their rules. Reminder: Ember is not a private school; it is a curriculum provider. If you are interested in an accredited online school, you may want to consider our K–12 online academy LUOA.

Ember: K–12 is a curriculum provider, not a school. Therefore, every parent or educator needs to ensure that your students are abiding by the requirements of your state. In most states, this will require that parents create homeschool transcripts for each student each year. Click here for more information. 

Since Ember K–12 is a curriculum-only program and not a school, we do not offer standardized testing. If you would like to learn more about your student’s options to participate in standardized testing, please contact your local school board.
