Two Liberty University sophomores showcased their athletic talents on the international stage this past summer.
Danielle Boothe became the first Lady Flames swimmer to compete internationally while attending Liberty. She represented her homeland of Jamaica in two relays at the 2015 Pan Am Games, held in Toronto, Canada, in July.
Boothe, a biomedical sciences major who holds five Jamaican National Age Group records, helped her team place seventh in the 400 medley and eighth in the 400 freestyle.
Jonathan Healy, a member of Liberty’s tae kwon do team, traveled in July to South Korea, where the sport originated, for the World University Summer Games. He was one of 21 members of Team USA representing various colleges and universities around the U.S.
Healy defeated Angel Ramos of Chile before narrowly missing a quarterfinal bid by dropping a 3-1 decision to Kazakhstan’s Smaiyl Duisebay.
Healy, a middleweight black belt from Houston who is pursuing his business degree through Liberty’s online program, was one of two Liberty gold medalists at the 40th annual National Collegiate Taekwondo Association (NCTA) national championships in April. He has previously competed in Taiwan, Mexico, Paraguay, and Bolivia, and hopes to realize his goal of receiving an Olympic bid to represent Team USA at the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo.
