Construction is progressing quickly on Liberty’s iconic campus landmark, the Freedom Tower. Still on schedule to open in Fall 2017, the 17-story structure will be the tallest building in Lynchburg. Click on this full-spread infographic to read about the tower’s unique features.

Crews are using the Doka Concrete Formwork System, which calls for pouring the walls and slabs (separately) into a form. Once the concrete cures, the form is raised up to begin the next level. It is the same concept as a spring form cake pan. Watch construction of the Freedom Tower in real time at Liberty.edu/LiveCams.

Liberty has brought together the best minds in construction and design on the East Coast to build the Freedom Tower. VMDO out of Charlottesville is the lead architectural firm, working closely with Construction Management Associates. Both have been responsible for several projects in Liberty’s $500 million campus rebuilding. Fox & Associates of Richmond, Va., is the lead structural engineering firm. Owner Clive Fox has worked on projects ranging from schools and university buildings throughout the state to foundation and ancillary design work for rides at Kings Dominion amusement park.
