Humble Tip inspires youth through new nonprofit

February 26, 2019

As executive director of a nonprofit organization, Liberty University alumnus and motivational speaker Jason Lewis (’05, ’10), better known by his rap artist name Humble Tip, is making an impact on today’s youth.

After launching Beautiful Tomorrow Inc. in 2017, Lewis has traveled to over 80 middle and high schools across the U.S. to perform at an interactive, multimedia assembly that offers educational Q & As and inspirational hip-hop. He presents a message on positive thinking that empowers students to become world-changers through selfless acts of love, kindness, and encouragement.

“It’s very much like a steroid shot of positivity,” Lewis said.

He is scheduled to take the event to over 70 schools this year.

“We go around the entire country,” said Lewis, who travels with his production manager, administrative assistant, and a full sound system with lighting and stage backdrops. “Sometimes the crowd is predominantly middle-class, white kids. Sometimes the crowd is minority students. My main mission is to encourage and be a light of hope. Secondary to that is to assist them in developing a plan for the future with a priority on education.”

Lewis, who received a B.S. in Public Health-Health Promotion and an M.A. in Human Services Counseling with a concentration in health and wellness, also presents holistic health information in his assemblies, focusing on mental and physical wellness.

“Most motivational speakers want to talk at students, but we pride ourselves on having healthy, fruitful dialogue with students, many of whom are hurting,” Lewis said. “They’re struggling with things that 15-, 16-, and 17-year-olds shouldn’t be struggling with — suicide, low self-esteem, a lack of self-worth and value. We have conversations about anxiety, depression, bullying, and overcoming obstacles.”

The name of the event comes from the idea that all young people, “regardless of their background, environment, dreams, goals, and desires, can have what we call a ‘Beautiful Tomorrow’ by saying ‘no’ to drugs, by not being violent, by continually studying and doing well in school, by having a plan, understanding the value of each individual, and knowing that their worth is not dictated by other peoples’ opinions.” (Read more on BeautifulTomorrowAssembly.com).

Lewis continues to take the stage as Humble Tip at concerts, youth conferences, and summer camps. Most recently, he performed during Liberty’s Winterfest, the largest Christian New Year’s celebration on the East Coast. His “Beautiful Tomorrow” album will be released this spring and includes music from the school assemblies.

In November, Lewis joined about 40 other Christian music artists for a “faith briefing” at the White House, where they participated in a worship session and were updated on some of the faith-based projects initiated by the Trump Administration.
Lewis also serves as a national recruiter for Liberty, a job that is separate from his work with the nonprofit, which is not affiliated with the university.
