Merry Christmas

Written by Bethany Williams, Senior Associate Director

Christmastime is here!

Christmas is a very special time but it can also be stressful.  The hustle and bustle around the holiday season and being pulled in many directions with visiting friends, family, buying gifts, and traveling, can all add to the chaos.  The world tells us Christmas is about material things-the gifts you buy for others and what is on your Christmas wish list. An emphasis is placed on all the delicious foods and drinks around the holidays. Let’s face it, there is nothing like a warm Christmas cookie fresh out of the oven!

However, Christmas is truly so much more than that!  Christmas is a time set aside to remember Jesus’s birth. This Christmas season, I challenge you to not get caught up in the hustle and bustle. Try not to get caught up in the consumerism. Take time to slow down and make a list of 12 blessings in your life that you are thankful for.  These blessings could be tangible or intangible.  Take time to be intentional about reflecting and focusing on gratitude this season.

If you do not believe, I want to invite you this Christmas to consider accepting the gift of Jesus.  He loves us despite all of wrongdoings and rebellious spirit and He wants you to accept his free gift of eternal life!  I encourage you to ponder the wonder of His humble birth in a manger, living a perfect life on earth and then dying on the cross for our sins and miraculously raising again.  You see, while Christmas is a time to remember Jesus’ birth, our hope comes in His resurrection!  Joy at Christmastime comes in reflecting on who Jesus is and that we have the gift of eternal life!

Christmas truly is a very magical time of year.  I hope that you take time to slow down and enjoy your time with family, friends and reflect on the birth of Jesus, our Savior.
