5 ways to be smart about your digital wellness

  1. Do a ‘Who you are following’ detox

What you allow to enter your mind will come back out of your heart (Matthew 6:21). This might seem obvious but what you see on your phone screen does stay with you, whether you mean for it to or not. So look through who you are following on all your apps and see who you can get rid of.

  1. Use the time limit feature on your phone for social media

This is an easy one. We all have a feature on our phones now that tracks and can help us limit our time on social media. Just turn it on and use it.

  1. Intentionally plan to spend time with friends in person and do not use your phone

Do you plan out your week ahead? Schedule some meals or fun activities where you can be with friends or family and not need any technology. There are so many options here on LU campus that you can use, Hydaway Outdoor Center, Bowling, Snowflex, and more! If you don’t live in Lynchburg, do a quick google search or get creative and make your own list of fun things you’d like to try out, screen free.

  1. Stop scrolling during class

This one is really hurting you, like really really badly. You are at Liberty to learn, don’t waste your money while doing something for free! Listen, take notes, think of questions, connect the lecture to your textbook.

  1. Find a hobby that doesn’t involve any screens

Having something you enjoy doing that gets you away from screens is good for your mental wellness, your posture (aka physical wellness), intellectual wellness, and social wellness…you get it, all areas of your life. It can be challenging to find something that does not need a screen, so here are a few ideas painting, intramural sports, skiing, knitting, longboarding, swimming, etc.
