Educational Requirements
According to the New York Department of Education:
The state of New York offers the following endorsements.

New York does not offer Spanish.
Students will need to obtain their Virginia license first to qualify for reciprocity.
Additional Requirements
Students will be required to complete the following:
- Two clock hours of coursework or training in school violence prevention and intervention
- Six clock hours, of which at least three hours must be conducted through face-to-face instruction, of coursework or training in the prevention and intervention of harassment, bullying and discrimination
A certificate can be issued to an applicant who completed a comparable educator program in another U.S. State or Territory and has completed all examination, workshop, and fingerprinting requirements. Information regarding the requirements for certification can be found below:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 2.5 cumulative GPA in a Bachelor’s or higher degree
- A satisfactory passing score on all required exams for the Initial certificate sought
- Fingerprint Clearance
- Complete all required workshops
Reciprocity
The links below list out-of-state certificates that are acceptable for the issuance of a New York State Conditional Initial certificate through Interstate Reciprocity. The Office of Teaching Initiatives can not determine eligibility for certification until an application has been submitted, and a review of your credentials has been completed. New York State does not pre-approve teacher preparation programs completed in other U.S. States or Territories.
