Individual & Family Clinical – Alabama
LU’s MSW program offers all the courses and internships necessary to meet education requirements for licensure in Alabama* for any of the following credentials. Students are encouraged to meet with their gate advisor by contacting msw@liberty.edu for course selection and sequencing information to ensure they will meet the requirements for their specific license of choice.

Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) – Non-Clinical AND Clinical
- Exam Requirement: The candidate must pass an ASWB exam for the appropriate licensure level.
- Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: No postgraduate supervised experience required before licensure.
- Additional requirements may apply.
Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW)
- Exam Requirement: The candidate must pass an ASWB exam for the appropriate licensure level.
- Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: The candidate must have completed at least 3,000 hours of postgraduate supervised experience in social work. This must be concurrent with a minimum of 96 hours of clinical supervision.
- Additional Requirements:
- Must hold a current, active LMSW license.
Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker – Private Independent Practice (LICSW-PIP)
- Exam Requirement: No exam required.
- Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: The candidate must have completed either: at least three (3) years full-time, OR five (5) years part-time postgraduate experience in the specified social work method; in addition, one (1) year full-time, OR two (2) years part-time postgraduate experience in the specified social work method after receiving the LICSW license.
- Additional Requirements:
- Must hold a current, active LICSW license.
