Master of Social Work: General – Washington

LU’s MSW program offers all the courses and internships necessary to meet education requirements for licensure in Washington* for any of the following credentials. Students are encouraged to meet with their gate advisor by contacting msw@liberty.edu for course selection and sequencing information to ensure they will meet the requirements for their specific license of choice.

Licensed Social Worker Associate – Advanced (LASWA)

• Exam Requirement: No exam required.
• Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: No postgraduate supervised experience required before licensure.
• Additional requirements may apply.

Licensed Advanced Social Worker (LASW)

• Exam Requirement: The candidate must pass an ASWB exam for the appropriate licensure level.
• Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: The candidate must have completed at least 3,000 hours of postgraduate supervised experience in social work, including at least 800 hours of direct client contact. This must be concurrent with a minimum of 90 hours of direct supervision, of which at least 40 hours must be individual, with a licensed independent clinical social worker (LCSW) or a licensed advanced social worker (LASW).
• Additional Requirements
  • Completed 36 required continuing education hours, with six (6) hours in professional ethics.

Licensed Social Worker Associate – Independent Clinical (LCSWA)

• Exam Requirement: No exam required.
• Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: No postgraduate supervised experience required before licensure.
• Additional requirements may apply.

Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW)

• Exam Requirement: The candidate must pass an ASWB exam for the appropriate licensure level.
• Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: In a period of no less than two (2) years, the candidate must have completed at least 3,000 hours of postgraduate supervised experience in clinical social work, including at least 1,000 hours of direct client contact. This must be concurrent with a minimum of 100 hours of direct clinical supervision, of which at least 60 hours must be individual. At least 70 of these supervision hours must be supervised by a licensed independent clinical social worker (LICSW); the remainder may be supervised by an equally qualified licensed mental health practitioner.
