Master of Social Work: General – Louisiana

LU’s MSW program offers all the courses and internships necessary to meet education requirements for licensure in Louisiana* for any of the following credentials. Students are encouraged to meet with their gate advisor by contacting msw@liberty.edu for course selection and sequencing information to ensure they will meet the requirements for their specific license of choice.

Registered Social Worker (RSW)

  • Exam Requirement: No exam required.
  • Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: No postgraduate supervised experience required before licensure.
  • Additional requirements may apply.

Certified Social Worker (CSW)

  • Exam Requirement: The candidate must take an ASWB exam for the appropriate licensure level within the first six (6) months after certification and annually for the next two and a half (2.5) years. If this requirement is met, the candidate may hold the certification for up to three years from the date of issuance of the original certificate.
  • Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: No postgraduate supervised experience required before licensure.

Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW)

  • Exam Requirement: The candidate must pass an ASWB exam for the appropriate licensure level.
  • Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: No postgraduate supervised experience required before licensure.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

  • Exam Requirement: The candidate must pass an ASWB exam for the appropriate licensure level.
  • Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: In a period of no less than two (2) years but no less than four (4) years, the candidate must have completed at least 5,760 hours of postgraduate experience in social work, of which 3,840 hours must occur under the supervision of a board approved clinical supervisor (LCSW-BACS). This must be concurrent with a minimum of 96 hours of direct, face-to-face supervision.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker – Board-Approved Clinical Supervisor (LCSW-BACS)

  • Exam Requirement: No exam required.
  • Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: No postgraduate supervised experience required before licensure.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Must hold a current, active LCSW license and have practiced as an LCSW for at least three (3) years.
    • Complete a board-orientation workshop.
    • Complete a board-approved supervision workshop on the theory and techniques of supervision as well as procedures used in supervision toward licensure.
