Advanced Generalist: Individual & Family Clinical – Rhode Island
LU’s MSW program offers all the courses and internships necessary to meet education requirements for licensure in Rhode Island* for any of the following credentials. Students are encouraged to meet with their gate advisor by contacting msw@liberty.edu for course selection and sequencing information to ensure they will meet the requirements for their specific license of choice.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- Exam Requirement: No exam required.
- Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: No postgraduate supervised experience required before licensure.

Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW)
- Exam Requirement: The candidate must pass an ASWB exam for the appropriate licensure level.
- Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: In a period of no less than 24 months but no more than 72 months, the candidate must have completed at least 3,000 hours of postgraduate supervised experience in clinical social work, including at least 1,500 hours of direct client contact, under the supervision of a licensed independent clinical social worker (LICSW). This must be concurrent with a minimum rate of two (2) hours of supervision per two (2) weeks and/or one (1) hour per 20 contact hours, of which at least 75% must be individual.

- Must hold a current, active LCSW license.
- Completed thirty (30) contact hours of continuing social work education during the preceding 24 months in specified areas.
