Advanced Generalist: Individual & Family Clinical – Nebraska

LU’s MSW program offers all the courses and internships necessary to meet education requirements for licensure in Nebraska* for any of the following credentials. Students are encouraged to meet with their gate advisor by contacting msw@liberty.edu for course selection and sequencing information to ensure they will meet the requirements for their specific license of choice.

Provisionally Licensed Mental Health Practitioner (PLMHP)

• Exam Requirement: No exam required.
• Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: No postgraduate supervised experience required before licensure.
• Additional requirements may apply.

Licensed Mental Health Practitioner (LMHP)

• Exam Requirement: The candidate must pass an ASWB exam for the appropriate licensure level.
• Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: The candidate must have completed at least 3,000 hours of postgraduate experience in mental health practice, including at least 1,500 hours of direct client contact in a setting where mental health services were being offered, under the supervision of a qualified physician, licensed clinical psychologist, certified master social worker (CMSW), certified professional counselor, or marriage and family therapist qualified for certification. This must be concurrent with a minimum rate of one (1) hour week of direct supervision.

  • Must hold a current, active PLMHP license.

Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner (LIMHP)

• Exam Requirement: The candidate must pass an ASWB exam for the appropriate licensure level.
• Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: The candidate must have completed at least 3,000 hours of postgraduate experience in mental health practice, including 1,500 hours of direct contact with clients diagnosed under the major mental illness or disorder category, under the supervision of a licensed physician, a licensed psychologist, or a licensed independent mental health practitioner (LIMHP). This must be concurrent with a minimum rate of two (2) hours of direct supervision per fifteen (15) contact hours.

  • Must hold a current, active PLMHP or LMHP license.

Certified Social Worker (CSW)

• Exam Requirement: No exam required.
• Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: No postgraduate supervised experience required before licensure.

Provisional Certification as a Master Social Worker (PCMSW)

• Exam Requirement: No exam required.
• Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: No postgraduate supervised experience required before licensure.
• Additional requirements may apply.

Certified Master Social Worker (CMSW)

• Exam Requirement: The candidate must pass an ASWB exam for the appropriate licensure level.
• Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: The candidate must have completed at least 3,000 hours of postgraduate experience in social work under the supervision of a certified master social worker (CMSW). This must be concurrent with a minimum rate of one (1) hour per week of direct supervision.
