Advanced Generalist: General – Ohio

LU’s MSW program offers all the courses and internships necessary to meet education requirements for licensure in Ohio* for any of the following credentials. Students are encouraged to meet with their gate advisor by contacting msw@liberty.edu for course selection and sequencing information to ensure they will meet the requirements for their specific license of choice.

Licensed Social Worker (LSW)

  • Exam Requirement: The candidate must pass an ASWB exam for the appropriate licensure level.
  • Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: No postgraduate supervised experience required before licensure.

Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW)

  • Exam Requirement: The candidate must pass an ASWB exam for the appropriate licensure level.
  • Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: The candidate must have completed at least 24 unique months (OR 3,000 hours) of postgraduate experience in social work under the supervision of a licensed independent social worker with Supervision Designation (LISW-S). This must be concurrent with a minimum of 150 hours of direct supervision at a rate of one (1) hour per 20 work hours.

Licensed Independent Social Worker – Supervisor (LISW-S)

  • Exam Requirement: No exam required.
  • Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: No postgraduate experience required before licensure.
  • Additional Requirements
    • Must hold a current, active LISW license.
    • Completed at least nine (9) hours of supervision continuing education units, which were earned AFTER the LISW license was issued; OR complete a master’s level social work supervision course from an accredited university (must have been completed within the last three (3) years).
