School Counseling (48 Hours) – Ohio
The M.Ed. School Counseling 48-hour program (MECU) is closed to new enrollments, but previously enrolled students are still permitted to finish this program. The below information addresses state requirements measured against the 48-hour program. Degree Completion Plans (DCPs) beginning after July 1, 2023, will reflect the 60-hour School Counseling Program (SHCO). Students on DCPs prior to 2023-2024 whose state requirements are 60 credit hours can contact LUO Academic Advising to switch to the new 23-24 60-hour M.Ed. School Counseling DCP.
Ohio requires that applicants for this licensure have
- A master’s degree and successful completion of an internship consisting of six hundred contact hours in a school setting
- Documentation of program completion from university
- A passing score on the Ohio Assessment for Educators #040
- Completion of a BCI/FBI background check
Additional Requirements
Per the Ohio Department of Education, students trained at Liberty University must meet the qualifications for being licensed in Virginia. After completing those qualification, a letter of eligibility will allow the student’s file to be reviewed for licensure in Ohio. While the student may choose the Ohio Educator’s Assessment (040) administered by Pearson, this is not necessary as the student will take the assessment required by Virginia.
