School Counseling (48 Hours) – Nebraska
The M.Ed. School Counseling 48-hour program (MECU) is closed to new enrollments, but previously enrolled students are still permitted to finish this program. The below information addresses state requirements measured against the 48-hour program. Degree Completion Plans (DCPs) beginning after July 1, 2023, will reflect the 60-hour School Counseling Program (SHCO). Students on DCPs prior to 2023-2024 whose state requirements are 60 credit hours can contact LUO Academic Advising to switch to the new 23-24 60-hour M.Ed. School Counseling DCP.
Nebraska requires that applicants for this licensure have
- A master’s degree in counseling with specialization in school counseling with minimum of 36 hours
- A minimum of 100 clock hours of school counseling field experience prior to internship and a school counseling internship with a minimum of 450 clock hours of internship at the grade levels of endorsement
- A previously earned teaching certificate with an endorsement contained in 92 NAC 24; or complete 12 additional semester hours of professional teacher education coursework related to core curriculum design, lesson plan development, classroom management, student assessment, and differentiated instruction strategies
Additional Requirements
Applicant will be responsible to either gain a teaching certificate with an endorsement contained in 92 NAC 24, or complete 12 additional semester hours beyond the master’s degree.
