Elementary Education: Middle Grades Mathematics – Maryland
Educational Requirements
According to the Maryland Department of Education:
The state of Maryland offers the following endorsements.

Maryland offers Elementary Education (1-6) and Middle School English Language Arts (4-9).

Maryland offers Elementary Education (1-6) and Middle School Science (4-9).

Maryland offers Elementary Education (1-6) and Middle School Mathematics (4-9).

Maryland offers Elementary Education (1-6) and Middle School Social Studies (4-9).
Additional Requirements (During Degree Program)
- Students must pass the Praxis Teaching Reading: Elementary 5205 with a cut score of 159.
Additional Requirements (After Degree Conferral)
- Please submit all licensure documents (located on the Gate 4 Checklist) to gate4@liberty.edu.
- Students will need to obtain their Virginia license first to qualify for reciprocity.
- Gate 4 will complete a College Verification Form which will be used to apply for Virginia licensure.
- After obtaining a Virginia license students can then apply for a Maryland license through reciprocity.
Reciprocity
Maryland does not offer 1:1 reciprocity. Candidates who hold a valid professional license from another state or country in the area of licensure being sought can find additional requirements for licensure here.
HB 1300 became law on February 12, 2021. The legislation amends the testing requirements for candidates from other states and requires candidates from other states to submit a performance assessment. Text of the law is available here.
