Secondary Education Curriculum to Ed.S. in School Curriculum & Instructional Planning – Florida

Educational Requirements

According to the Florida Department of Education:

  • This program will be closing effective July 1, 2024. We recommend the student enrolls in the new MAT: Secondary Education cognate specific program.

The state of Florida does NOT offer the following endorsements:

  • Engineering: Florida offers Engineering and Technology Education (6-12).

The state of Florida offers the following endorsements:

  • Biology  (6-12)
  • Business Education  (6-12)
  • Chemistry  (6-12)
  • Computer Science  (K-12)
  • English  (6-12)
  • Family and Consumer Science  (6-12)
  • Health and P.E.: Florida offers Physical Education and students will not receive the Health endorsement.  (K-12)
  • Mathematics  (6-12)
  • Music Choral: Music (K-12)
  • Music Instrumental: Music (K-12)
  • Physics  (6-12)
  • Physics Education: Earth-Space Science  (6-12)
  • Spanish (K-12)
  • Social Science  (6-12)
  • ESOL (K-12)
  • Theatre Arts (Drama) (6-12)
  • Visual Arts (K-12)

Additional Requirements (After Degree Conferral)

  1. Please submit all licensure documents (located on the Gate 4 Checklist) to gate4@liberty.edu. 
  2. Students will need to obtain their Virginia license first to qualify for reciprocity.
  3. Gate 4 will complete a College Verification Form which will be used to apply for Virginia licensure.
  4. After obtaining a Virginia license students can then apply for a Florida license through reciprocity.

Reciprocity

Florida has two reciprocity routes for certified teachers and administrators to qualify for our Professional Certificate.

Route 1: Valid Standard Certificate Issued by a State Other than Florida

  • The certificate shall be the valid standard educator’s certificate issued by that state which is comparable to a Florida Professional Certificate, and
  • Be issued in a subject comparable to a Florida certification subject, and
  • Require the same or higher level of training required for certification in that subject in Florida, and
  • The certificate must be currently valid (not expired or revoked).
