MAT- – Vermont

Educational Requirements

According to the Vermont Agency of Education:

This program will be closing effective July 1, 2024. We recommend the student enrolls in the new MAT: Secondary Education cognate specific program.

The state of Vermont does NOT offer the following endorsements.

  • Biology

  • Chemistry

  • Physics

  • Physics Education: Earth Science

The state of Vermont offers the following endorsements.

  • Business Education (5-12)

  • Computer Science (7-12)

  • Engineering (7-12)

  • English (7-12)

  • FACS (7-12)

  • Mathematics (7-12)

  • Music: Choral: Music (PK-12)

  • Music Instrumental: Music (PK-12)

  • Social Studies (7-12)

  • Spanish: Modern and Classical Languages: Spanish (PK-12)

  • TESL (ELL) (PK-12)

  • Theatre Arts (PK-12)

  • Visual Arts (PK – Grade 12)

Additional Requirements (After Degree Conferral)

  1. Please submit all licensure documents (located on the Gate 4 Checklist) to gate4@liberty.edu. 
  2. Students will need to obtain their Virginia license first to qualify for reciprocity.
  3. Gate 4 will complete a College Verification Form which will be used to apply for Virginia licensure.
  4. After obtaining a Virginia license students can then apply for a Vermont license through reciprocity.

Reciprocity

Eligibility for licensure through reciprocity is determined by meeting requirements under the rules of reciprocity per the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC) Interstate Agreement. Vermont accepts professional teaching licenses from all United States jurisdictions, which includes states, commonwealths, districts, and the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA)

What does it mean to apply under the NASDTEC Interstate Agreement? The NASDTEC Interstate Agreement is a statement by Vermont outlining which other states’ educator certificates will be accepted. Specifically the agreement outlines which particular types of educator certificates (teachers, administrators, service personnel, or career/technical), and which particular styles of certifications (titles, fields, etc.) will be accepted.
