Educational Requirements
According to the Vermont Department of Education:
This program will be closing effective July 1, 2024. We recommend the student enrolls in the new MAT: Secondary Education cognate specific program.
The state of Vermont does NOT offer the following endorsements:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Physics Education: Earth Science
The state of Vermont offers the following endorsements:
- Business Education (5-12)
- Computer Science (7-12)
- Engineering (7-12)
- English (7-12)
- FACS (7-12)
- Mathematics (7-12)
- Music: Choral: Music (PK-12)
- Music Instrumental: Music (PK-12)
- Social Studies (7-12)
- Spanish: Modern and Classical Languages: Spanish (PK-12)
- TESL (ELL) (PK-12)
- Theatre Arts (PK-12)
- Visual Arts (PK – Grade 12)

Reciprocity
Eligibility for licensure through reciprocity is determined by meeting requirements under the rules of reciprocity per the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC) Interstate Agreement. If you are applying for licensure through reciprocity from or through a recommendation from an education preparation program in New Mexico or South Dakota, please contact a licensing specialist at aoe.licensinginfo@vermont.gov, as rules regarding reciprocity with these states is in the process of changing.
